Here I am, back with my post on flora and plantations influencing the Vaastu of a place.
1. As already explained in my previous post, North direction depicts the earth element and should be kept lower and greener for a balanced Vaastu and entrance of wind into the house. A garden in this direction is auspicious for the house.
People who have large areas available in this direction can plant fruits such as custard apple, pomegranate, guava, mango and mulberry (shahtoot), which help in prosperity as they represent ‘Shree’. Homes where the ‘Karma’ is limited, Cheeku is to be planted to channelize the hard work so that the benefits of hard work can be reaped by the residents. Citrus plants such as lemon, Gal-Gal etc. should be planted for better health. People with limited space in this direction should plant Bonsai plants. It is a myth that Bonsai plants limit your growth. If that was true, then Japan could not have grown to this extent. Rather, we should learn to make maximum use of the limited space available from the Japanese.
2. The epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata also describe how the right use of plants can compensate for the deficient Vaastu of a place. When Sita Ma was kidnapped and taken to Lanka, she was kept in the Ashoka Vatika, as the Ashoka tree does protection. Five or seven Ashoka trees (in odd numbers) in front of your house provide protection and prevent thefts and other mishaps in the house.
3. Every house should essentially have minimum three plants. Haar-Shingar is planted for prosperity. Tulsi is for good fortune and balanced fate. It is auspicious for the ladies and brings luck to their husbands. Curry Leaf plant helps in the health enhancement of the residents of the house. Further, it may be noted that Cactus is not inauspicious. It provides protection from enemies. However, the species to be used in the house should be Naag Phani like Aloe Vera. This plant should be placed after seven steps from the entrance, irrespective of the direction of entrance.
4. Plants with white flowers like Raat Raani and Haar Shingar represent Sararswati Ma. These help in sharpening of brains and peace of mind. These should be planted in the west & north directions.
5. Bamboo is considered inauspicious in India, but is considered very auspicious in China. We can use them in the west and north side.
6. The staircase should be moving up clockwise. However, if the stairs are anticlockwise, this defect can be cleared by placing indoor plants like areca and irina palms.
7. As explained earlier, north should be lower and south should be higher. However, if it otherwise, then it can be compensated by planting creepers like bougainvillea in the north side hanging from top to bottom and tall trees like palm and silver oak etc. in the south side. If space permits, a pool or pond in the south direction with lotus and water lilies will also help in retaining prosperity.
8. Banana tree is representative of Lord Vishnu-Lakshmi Ma and should positively be used where problems in relationships exist as it enhances the relationships. This is the reason that it is used in the marriage vedi also. If space does not permit, the smaller version ‘Keli’ can be planted.
9. For spirituality, trees like Ashoka and Amrapaali are good. Another pious plant is Shwetark. This is representative of Lord Ganesha and gives wisdom and intelligence. It also removes the obstacles.
Shall come back soon with more information. In case you have any queries, please feel free to write back.
